This is not your typical summer acting camp.  This is highly transformative training.

What differentiates the Ward Acting Studio's Six-Week Intensive is not just its specific focus on the Meisner Acting Technique but in how you'll apply that work to rehearsals, interviews and auditions to your competitive advantage.  Rather than test-driving a variety of disciplines and philosophies, you'll be focusing on one specific skill set and find that everything you're learning in one class can be directly applied to the next.  By focusing on this one set of principles for six weeks with a master instructor and applying those principles to different types of professional situations, your growth will have a 'snowball' effect where it increases exponentially as you go through the program.

You'll have a good time and leave with a journal full of important discoveries, but more importantly -- you'll become empowered.  You'll learn and practice better techniques that will in turn become better habits.  At the end of the six weeks, you'll see a radical difference in how you approach your craft and how you confront your career.   This Intensive has drawn an international following with actors traveling from England, Scotland, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, France, Macedonia, Italy, Japan, Greece, Austria, Italy, Israel, Sweden, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand specifically to train in this program with Wendy Ward.

The intensive demands a high level of commitment and discipline; there is no coddling here. At the same time, Wendy seriously cares about her actors and opens up a whole new world of reality-based, truthful work that you never thought possible.  I recommend Wendy to any actor who is serious about their craft.

The Atmosphere

Our Meisner Intensive is both collegial and competitive.  You'll learn to work at a faster pace, become less sensitive to criticism and increase your stamina for life in the industry.  You'll enjoy seeing the growth in your classmates and celebrate the transformation in yourself.  There will be challenges and sometimes setbacks, but those will only serve to move you toward great results at the end.

The Schedule and Cost

The workload demands attention and discipline during the week, but we schedule the classes in such a way as to avoid burnout.  Classes meet Monday-Thursday, leaving long weekends free for rehearsals, homework assignments, and necessary R&R so that both students and faculty return rested, refreshed, and ready for work the following Monday.  The 2018 Six-Week Intensive costs $2,400 and may be paid all at once or in three equal installments.  (The price of the Intensive will go up in 2019, however there will be an 'early bird' registration discount for actors who apply, are accepted and pay in full prior to February 28, 2019.)

New!  Meisner Intensive Online Option

Wendy first began teaching actors over the internet three years ago upon the request of Intensive students who were returning to their home countries.  Necessity turned into invention.  She now works regularly with actors over Skype, FaceTime and Zoom.  Beginning this summer, actors are able to take the Six-Week Intensive from wherever they are in the world.  So, if you can't travel to Wendy's studio in Durham, you can apply for acceptance as an online student and participate from the comfort of your own home.

Why Study in North Carolina?

There are many reasons why actors might want to join a summer program in New York City.  So why study in Durham?  Put simply, because this is where Wendy is.  Many of the actors who come to the Intensive have heard of it from friends who studied with Wendy.  These students make great classmates because their sole purpose in coming to Durham is to work hard and soak up everything Wendy has to offer.  Durham also offers a lower cost of living making it more affordable.  And if you want to get away on your long weekends, it's easy to get to the beach or to the mountains.
